Terms & Conditions
By completing and sending this Booking form, you agree that you are making a confirmed booking, and that you have read and agreed to the following terms:
Performance Times
- You (The Client) agree to the performance times as discussed, and shown above.
- Any extension beyond the confirmed finish time is at the discretion of Sounds Fishy and the management of the venue. Any Extension to the Agreed Finish time will be charged in addition to the booking fee at a rate of £100.00 per hour or part hour, thereafter, payable in advance.
- Performance time including ‘over time’ is restricted to a maximum of eight hours in a 24 hour period.

Health, Safety & Security
- The Client is responsible for the safety and security at the venue and shall evict any person(s) causing nuisance to the DJ, the DJ’s assistant or any other person employed by, or associated, with Sounds Fishy.
- The Client will be responsible for any damage, normal wear and tear excluded, to equipment (sound/lighting equipment and/or music library) caused by anyone in attendance at the event during the contracted time period, including the time allowed for setting up and packing away, unless damage is due to the companies negligence. The full cost of any repairs required will be charged to The Client who will be advised of any damage as soon as it is possible.
- Sounds Fishy does not tolerate any violent, aggressive or abusive behaviour from anyone. We reserve the right to terminate our services at any time should we feel our personal safety or the safety of our equipment is under threat. If this occurs, no refund of any fees will be given and we reserve the right to claim damages against any person(s).
- The Client/Venue Management will provide adequate supervision of it’s guests, customers and, or staff at the venue, and will be liable for any loss of, or damage to, the equipment, vehicles, or personnel belongings, caused by guests, customers and, or staff.
- Sounds Fishy agree to conduct themselves in a sober and proper manner and respond to the reasonable wishes of the Client as to volume, location of equipment or other matters concerning peoples enjoyment of the entertainment.
Access, Set Up & Take Down
- The Client will allow suitable time for the delivery, installation, dismantling, and removal of equipment (up to 90 minutes).
- The Client will appreciate that suitable time for venue access, safe installation and dismantling and safe removal of equipment from venue is required in addition to performance time. Therefore, the Client and venue will allow suitable time for the installation and dismantling and removal of disco equipment (up to 90 minutes each side of the booking times). Sounds Fishy will usually speak to the venue and arrange access, but where appropriate, The Client will also inform the venue, in advance, of these requirements. Please note: Sounds Fishy shall not be liable for any additional charges levied to The Client by the venue in relation to equipment assembly / removal time scales.
- The Client shall ensure the venue will allow Sounds Fishy adequate access time for the setting up and taking down of any equipment. If the performance start time is delayed due to the inability of Sounds Fishy to gain access to the performance area, or any other delay beyond Sounds Fishy’s reasonable control, no liability will be accepted and no refund will be given.
- Where the client requests that Sounds Fishy set up equipment at an earlier time, prior to the actual start of the function, the client acknowledges that a tiered charge may be made for this additional service, and that this service will be subject to availability. In addition to any previously agreed charges, if Sounds Fishy should arrive at the venue at any earlier, pre-arranged time, and are unable to access the venue to set up the equipment or are prevented from doing so by the venue management, then the client shall be charged standing time at the discretion of Sounds Fishy, which must be settled in full before commencement of main entertainment.
- Sounds Fishy will not be liable for any refund, in part or whole, where ‘we’ are not able to access the venue due or where ‘we’ are prevented from accessing, setting up or providing our professional services by the venue management. Neither will Sounds Fishy be obligated to provide an extension to the agreed timescale on a pro-rata basis in these circumstances.
Power Supply & Performance Space
- The Client will ensure that safe and adequate power is available for Sounds Fishy exclusive use.
- Minimum power supply for a disco (other event types may differ) is :
- 3-4 x 13Amp sockets with a combined minimum continuous load capacity of 7Kilowatts (30 Amps)
- Or 1 x 32Amp industrial supply with cee-form type connector
- Where Sounds Fishy is engaged to work alongside a band, (or other entertainer) it is the client’s responsibility to ensure that adequate space exists within the venue for both entertainers to set up their equipment and that separate and suitable power supplies exist as detailed above. At the Client’s request, Sounds Fishy will liaise with other performers and act as in a stage management role to ensure a co-ordinated event, and work in advance to ensure performers make best use of available power and space.
- Sounds Fishy, at their discretion, reserves the right to discontinue all or part of equipment usage if the power provided is not capable of operating the equipment without risk of damage to the equipment, company or the public, or if the working environment constitutes a health and safety risk.
- Where the event is being held in a marquee, or temporary structure, The Client will ensure that the work area is dry and that the minimum power supply (as detailed above) is located within 15 Metres of this area. Please note: Bad Weather or impending bad weather on the day will not allow Sounds Fishy or contracted artiste(s) to commence entertainment out-doors under any circumstances. The surface on which Sounds Fishy is to play cannot be dirt, gravel, or any other unstable surface. If applicable, the client agrees to furnish a facility that completely covers Sounds Fishy’s equipment from direct sunlight and rain. If service must be discontinued for any of the aforementioned reasons, the full balance is still due. Sounds Fishy accepts no responsibility for damage to electrical equipment if caused as a result of working in inappropriate weather conditions.
- The Client will inform Sounds Fishy prior to performance date confirmation of venue sound limiter installation. Please note: Sounds Fishy reserve the right to decline entertainment at venues with sound limiter installed.
Payment & Cancellation
- Payment to Sounds Fishy will be as stated for the agreed performance times. Any additional changes to times must be agreed in writing by both parties and subject to any possible increase or decrease of cost.
- Payments of due balances received on the date of the event must be in cash and should be delivered prior to the scheduled start time. Financial settlement to take place by cash at the start of the performance(s), or by cheque (payable to “Ian Fish”) no later than fourteen days prior to the performance(s). If additional performance time is required, the fee for such time must be paid to the DJ(s) at that time. All other methods of payment will be by mutual agreement.
- Under no circumstances will Sounds Fishy begin rendering services until the balance is paid in full.
- A cancellation fee of not less than 50% of the agreed fee will be due if the cancellation is within 28 days of the performance.
- A cancellation fee of not less than 75% of the agreed fee will be due if the cancellation is within seven days of the performance.
- The whole of the agreed fee will be due if cancellation is within 48 hours of the performance.
- In the unlikely event that Sounds Fishy is unable to attend for any reason (due to accident or sudden illness for example), Sounds Fishy shall endeavour to provide a suitable substitute offering a similar service at no additional charge to the client. This does not apply in circumstances detailed below.
Force Majeure – Sounds Fishy will not be liable for failing to attend a booking, where the reason for non-attendance or late arrival is caused by adverse weather conditions (including Snow & Flooding), road closure, road traffic accident, vehicle breakdown, fuel shortages, acts of terrorism, industrial action, or other unavoidable circumstances deemed beyond our control.
Insurance & Licences
- Public liability insurance cover is provided by Sounds Fishy only for the protection of the public against damage caused to the public by Sounds Fishy personnel or equipment and not by any action of the Client or anyone in attendance, who may cause any such damage to themselves or others which may include, but is not restricted to them being under the influence of alcohol of other substances.
- Sounds Fishy is not responsible for obtaining any licence that may be required to stage the event. The client/venue(s) shall ensure that any such licences’ are obtained prior to the event. If they are unable to obtain this and need to cancel the event, please refer to the “payment, insurance and cancellation” section above.
- Sounds Fishy shall be in no way liable for breach of byelaws, or conditions under which the venue is leased, hired or entrusted to the client. The Client/Venue Management also ensures that all appropriate licenses, as required by law, are in force at the time of the performance(s).
Music
- Sounds Fishy accept short music lists/requests (eg First Dance, last dance, themed choices) in advance of functions & will endeavour to play up to 15 of the client’s choices, provided requests are submitted by email, at least 1 week before the event. The client agrees that Sounds Fishy cannot guarantee the inclusion of any difficult to source, obsolete or deleted titles either requested at the event, or previously notified. - For legal copyright reasons, we will only play client provided track(s) if they are supplied on an original audio CD.
- Sounds Fishy will not play songs with explicit or offensive language, or any track that the DJ considers would cause offence to any guests attending the function. If you are unsure about any track then please contact us.

In signing the contract, I agree that I have read the Terms and Conditions of hire and acknowledge booking details contained herein are correct. E. & O.E
Sounds Fishy was started by Ian Fish back in the late eighties as a simple disco & DJ set up, based in Cheshire, working across his home county and into The Wirral and Merseyside.
